The Institut > Historical Background
Belonging to the Générale de Santé group, leading private hospitalisation network in France and Europe, located in Southern Paris, the Institut Hospitalier Jacques Cartier (IHJC) was created in 1996 from the union of three facilities.
Since then, it became a reference in Paris region as a multidisciplinary hospital, thanks to its size and its medical activities that regroup traditional specialities such as general or specialized surgery, maternity, 24/7 Emergency Unit…and especially a worldly renowned pole of excellence in Cardiology, Cardio-Vascular Surgery, Cardiac Imaging and Interventional Cardiology (in both Adult and Paediatrics).
To face an increasing activity, to adapt to continuously improving techniques and to fulfil the highest standards of care, quality and safety , the hospital was already extended twice and a new project is currently under consideration for 2010. As Jacques Cartier was fond of new discoveries (navigator and untiring explorer, he discovered the banks of Canada in 1534), IHJC’s staff is deeply involved in its job, committed to patients and constantly doing his best to remain at the very forefront of innovation.
The last major development and best example is the creation of the first European “Hybrid Cardiac Operating Room” with such quality and safety standards ISO 5. That new operating room allows to treat patients that could not be before; indeed, the intervention is less invasive than a classic open-heart surgery and, for example, enables to replace someone’s heart valve although this person was considered too risky to operate before.
This innovative OR increases considerably the possibilities of treating heart diseases and also opens news possibilities for other medical specialities. (more…)
